What You Need to Know About Bankwest’s Balance Transfer Cards
There are many banks in Australia offering balance transfers to attract new customers, but Bankwest are one of the few who combine balance transfers with other appealing features such as cash back, no annual fees and perks such as complimentary travel insurance. Although their offers fluctuate, Bankwest’s balance transfer period is typically in the range of 6 – 12 months in duration.
How to Transfer a Balance to Bankwest
The best, easiest and cheapest time to transfer a balance to Bankwest is when you are applying to open a new credit card account with them. The application process as a whole is relatively straight forward and won’t take long, particularly if you are prepared with all the details you’ll need such as the account number of your current card.
When you are filling out your application form online, you’ll be presented with a balance transfer section. If you want to save money when you switch to Bankwest, this is where you’ll do it. Although there is a limit to how much you can transfer at any one time (typically a percentage of your credit limit), you can enter either a portion of your existing balance (leaving some on your current card) or opt to transfer the entire balance. It’s also possible to transfer more than one balance at the same time, and once again you have the option of transferring the entire balance or a part. Whatever you do, however, don’t forget to use this opportunity as you may be forced to pay a small fee if you want to transfer a balance after the application form is submitted.
Important Tips
Assuming you’ve transferred the entire balance from your old account, you are then free to close it. Bankwest will not do this for you, so make a note to remind yourself because failing to close your old account may mean you’ll be charged an annual fee. Also, if you already have a Bankwest credit card, you’ll not be able to transfer your balance to a new Bankwest card. Furthermore, if your existing account is in arrears then your balance transfer will not be processed.
