This is a very cheap AMEX platinum card with plenty to offer. It’ll perk your interest if you’re keen to earn some great points, enjoy excellent features and if your spending allows you to use your AMEX card enough to earn some rewards.

    Pros

You’ll get 15,000 bonus points straight up if you spend more than $500 in the first two months on your card. That’s worth about $150 toward travel costs with Travelscene and Harvey World Travel. Points earning potential is great with up to 3 points earned per $1 spent! You get 3 points per $1 at major supermarkets, 2 points per $1 at major petrol stations and 1 point per $1 everywhere else. If you make use of having free supplementary cards (up to 4 are available), you can earn points even faster by getting your family and friends to add to your reward earning potential.

If travelling is something you love to do (or do out of necessity for business), you’ll appreciate the complimentary Virgin Blue domestic return flight every year to selected Australian destinations. Of course you’re also covered with complimentary travel insurance when you take off. And when you’re on the road, it’s reassuring to have access to a 24/7 customer service team that will go the extra mile for you. If you have questions regarding your account, would like to redeem a flight or report a lost or stolen card, just give Platinum Priority Service a call and it’ll be sorted.

A Platinum Card means a Platinum Lifestyle. As a cardholder, you gain access to amexnetwork.com.au and will be connected to some of the best shopping, dining, travel and entertainment offers both at home and around the world. The kind of offers you can expect exclusive access to include free nights at hotels around the world, reduced price or free flights and exclusive discounts on products from top stores. At least you know that if you have built up a decent points balance, you can redeem them for something meaningful and long-lasting.

Perhaps one of the most important aspects of any card is its security. You want to know you’re covered if things go wrong, and this is definitely the case with the Platinum Edge credit card. You’ll get the AMEX online fraud protection guarantee, domestic and international travel insurance cover when you purchase your trip using your card, overseas medical emergency expenses, repatriation cover if you need to be returned home for medical treatment, baggage cover for when you luggage is damaged, lost or delayed and also travel inconvenience cover for those annoyingly delayed or cancelled flights. Suffice to say that peace of mind can be yours with this card.

    Cons

These cards are technically 'charge cards’, so they’re slightly different to a typical credit card. With a charge card you are required to make your repayments every month without fail. However, we don’t really look on that as an issue to worry about as it will make it much more difficult for you to fall into debt and should encourage you to spend wisely. Also note that there are separate sign up fees for frequent flyer rewards programs.

As is the case with any card you’re thinking of applying for, always make sure the annual fee (in this case a reasonable $149 p.a.) is worth your while. If you don’t read your fine print with all the terms and conditions you might think you get everything the card has to offer automatically when this may not be the case. Sometimes there are eligibility requirements for certain features or other limitations you need to be aware of. It pays to do your research so you’re not forking out an annual fee that doesn’t get you much in return simply because the card may not suit your lifestyle.

    Conclusion

This is a great card with plenty of points earning potential. The convenience, security and rewards features are appealing and the annual fee is on the low end for a platinum card regardless of bank, making it quite possibly worth your consideration.
