With an excellent rewards scheme and complimentary travel insurance cover, the Singapore Airlines Westpac Gold credit card is the perfect companion for anyone who loves to travel. The account comes with two cards (Visa and American Express) allowing you to earn up to 1 KrisFlyer point for every $1 spent. These points can then be redeemed for free flights with Singapore Airlines. If you earn $50,000 or more a year, and are over the age of 18, then read on.

Pros

The Singapore Airlines Westpac Gold credit card gives cardholders free access to the KrisFlyer programme, which allows you to transfer points into free flights, just by using your credit card as normal.

The American Express card that comes with the Singapore Airlines Westpac Gold account offers 1 KrisFlyer Mile for every $1 spent. Unfortunately, the Visa card isn’t as generous, only offering 0.5 KrisFlyer Miles. With this in mind, it’s best to use the Amex where possible, especially as both cards share the same rates.

The Singapore Airlines Westpac Gold credit card has everything covered including free travel insurance which protects you and your family for up to 3 months whilst travelling abroad, including medical cover, rental vehicle cover and up to $2.5m of personal liability.

Not only this, but the it also comes with complimentary purchase security insurance cover that protects you against loss, theft or accidental damage for any items purchased using the card up to the value of $125,000. The card has free extended warranty insurance cover, giving you an extra year’s warranty on top of the standard cover offered by the manufacturer.

The Singapore Airlines Westpac Gold credit card is like Fort Knox, protecting you against fraudulent activity regardless of where you are in the world. The Visa card also comes with ‘Verified’ technology to protect you against online credit card fraud.

Cons

Unfortunately, there is no introductory purchase rate, which may disappoint those looking to avoid interest fees on purchases for a few months. Having said that, the Singapore Airlines Westpac Gold credit card does come with a 45 day interest free period, so long as you pay off the balance in full each month, the rate thereafter is a respectable 19.49% p.a..

The card does come with a $125 p.a. annual management fee which is why this account is best suited to those of you who spend regularly on credit cards and will make the most of the KrisFlyer scheme. Compared with other cards this annual fee is only slightly above average.

There’s a 0.99% p.a. balance transfer rate for the first 6 months, which is fairly good, but if you’re looking to switch providers purely to pay off your credit card debts, then you maybe better off with a credit card that offers 0% on transfers for longer. Having said that, the Singapore Airlines Westpac Gold credit card’s balance transfer deal isn’t the worst on the market by any stretch of the imagination.

Conclusion

If you fly regularly with Singapore Airlines, or would like to, and you want the prestige of owning a gold card without the associated fees and costs then consider the Singapore Airlines Westpac Gold credit card. With a decent rewards scheme and a host of additional benefits, the Westpac credit card is great for anyone who loves to travel in style.
