The Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum credit card is a dual card account, a growing trend whereby accountholders get two credit cards to help them maximise their chances of earning reward points. In the case of the Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum credit card, members are given a Platinum American Express card and a Platinum Visa, both of which are managed under one account with just one annual fee, one credit limit and one monthly statement. With two credit cards both accruing points, it’s only a matter of time before you’re jetting off, courtesy of Westpac and Singapore Airlines.

Pros

The most obvious benefit to owning a Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum credit card is the reward scheme. For every $1 spent on the Amex card you’ll earn 1.5 KrisFlyer miles. If the merchant doesn’t accept Amex then switch to the Visa, which also offers 1.5 KrisFlyer miles for any purchases made outside of Australia and 1 mile for purchases made within. KrisFlyer miles can be redeemed for free flights and/or upgrades – perfect if you love travelling.

Not only does the Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum account give you the opportunity to reap the benefits of spending money on your credit card in the form of free flights, but also comes with a plethora of insurance and purchase protection benefits. The Platinum account comes with complimentary overseas travel insurance cover for trips of up to 6 months. This policy not only covers the main account holder, but also protects family members too.

The Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum credit card also offers purchase security insurance cover, which means that you are protected against loss, theft or accidental damage caused to any new items purchased using your Singapore Airlines card. Westpac also offer extended warranty cover, which adds an extra 12 months on top of the standard manufacturer’s warranty.

Regardless of whether you shop online, over the phone or in store, your money is protected thanks to Westpac’s state-of-the-art security technology and fraud surveillance. There’s also the option to sign up to Visa’s ‘Verified’ programme that makes online shopping even more secure.

If you are looking to save money by transferring your existing balances then you can take advantage of their 0.99% p.a. interest rate offer for 6 months, which although not the cheapest on the market, can save you quite a bit of money.

Cons

The Singapore Airlines Platinum credit card is a fairly decent all-rounder. One real downside is that there are no introductory rates on purchases – the purchase rate is fairly mediocre at 19.49% p.a.. If you don’t use your account to spend regularly, then the $250 p.a. annual fee will negate much of the value of any rewards earned. There is, however, a 45 day interest free period to take advantage of, so long as you can afford to pay off the balance in full each month.

Conclusion

If you want to be rewarded for spending and love to travel, particularly with Singapore Airlines, then the Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum credit card is well worth it. Do bare in mind the $250 p.a. annual management fee – if you don’t regularly spend on your credit card then you may wish to opt for a rewards card with a small annual fee. However, if you frequently use your credit card and want added free travel insurance and purchase protection then the Platinum account is ideal. Applying is quick and easy and only takes a couple of minutes, so what are you waiting for? Sign up now.
