Cardholders who use the Westpac Earth credit card are able to spend using both an American Express and a MasterCard on the same account – allowing you to earn even more Qantas Frequent Flyer points which can be redeemed for free flights! Not only this, but the Earth credit card comes with a low 0.99% p.a. interest rate on all balance transfers and up to 45 days interest free on all purchases. If you want a cheap rewards credit card then read on for our full review.

    Pros

The Westpac Earth credit card gives you free access to the award winning Qantas Frequent Flyer program, a rewards scheme favoured by the most seasoned of travellers due to their generous points to miles ratio.

The Earth account allows you to earn 0.5 QFF points for every $1 spent using the MasterCard. However, cardholders are able to double this by using the American Express card, which offers 1 QFF point per $1. What’s more, there’s no cap on the number of points you can earn. The sky’s the limit, literally!

Not only do you get free membership to the Qantas rewards program, but the Westpac Earth credit card also gives you free membership to the American Express Selects club and the MasterCard Applause program, which offers cardholders exclusive discounts and offers on a range of entertainment, travel, dinning and shopping experiences.

Westpac’s Earth credit card is more than just a rewards card. It also comes with a cheap introductory balance transfer offer (0.99% p.a. for 6 months) and a relatively generous interest free period of 45 days on all purchases.

Credit card security is first class and includes MasterCard’s SecureCode technology that adds an additional layer of protection against online credit card fraud.

The MasterCard also comes equipped with PayPass – a technology that allows you to pay for items up to the value of $100 by simply tapping the credit card on the reader for the ultimate in convenience. Paying with a Westpac Earth credit card is not only rewarding and secure, it’s also seriously fast!

    Cons

Unfortunately, the Westpac Earth credit card doesn’t come with an introductory purchase rate which may disappoint some. The standard rate of 19.99% p.a. is about average in comparison to other rewards cards on the market. There’s also a $75 p.a. annual fee to contend with. Having to pay simply to keep the account open means that you have to spend more to offset the annual fee in terms of the value of rewards earned. Furthermore, the earn rate for QFF points, particularly with the MasterCard, is low in comparison with other Qantas credit cards where it is possible to earn up to 1.5 QFF points per dollar spent. If you are mostly concerned about earning more Qantas points, then look compare the market thoroughly before applying.

    Conclusion

If you want to be rewarded for spending money, then the Earth credit card could be the one for you. It has a fairly good transfer, rate which is perfect if you are looking to switch providers and want a break from interest charges. It does come with a $75 p.a. annual management fee, which is fairly cheap for a rewards credit card and means that you don’t need to spend too much in order to get your money’s worth.

If you’re earning $15,000 or more, spend regularly on your credit card and want to take advantage of the Qantas Frequent Flyer rewards program, then look no further!
