Decent rewards, but AmEx surcharges a hurdle

Reviewed and not recommended by Jonathan on 03 Apr 2017

With this card you can accumulate reward points relatively quickly and fairly easily by shopping at major supermarkets and petrol stations. The rewards points are also increased for shopping at David Jones, but the benefit is reduced by the fact most products at the store are sold for inflated prices.

American Express is still rejected, or accepted with a significant surcharge, at many outlets and websites, which reduces the card’s convenience.

Overall it’s a pretty good card, even taking into account the reasonably steep annual fee.

Points, points, points

Reviewed and recommended by Jae on 04 Dec 2016

The best thing I like about this card is that you can use your points to pay off your account. This means I can spend all year and effectively pay for Christmas. The one thing I like the least is that not all stores accept American Express. However, more stores are coming around.

I get 3 points for every dollar for just buying groceries and petrol (which I have to anyway) at Coles or Woolworths.

I have found this card to be practical and the customer service to be always helpful.

Helps me buy what I want, when I want

Reviewed and recommended by Rosa on 13 Nov 2016

This card helps me buy what I want, when I want. It’s very easy to use and I love the David Jones staff and service — they make my days and shopping experience wonderful.

I will recommend the card to anyone, which I already have. My mom loves it — top class service. Best card ever! I love you, David Jones.

Rewards points and David Jones in-store bonuses

Reviewed and recommended by Shona on 08 Nov 2016

With frequent flyer points racked up every time I purchase something, I get great rewards with this card. I also get special deals from David Jones, including interest-free months on payment, especially around Christmas. I also get free wrapping on presents in store with the DJ AmEx card. I love this.

The rewards system is fantastic

Reviewed and recommended by Jordan on 25 Sep 2016

I signed up in-store and it was absolutely amazing! I was given 30,000 bonus points for signing up, which I could convert to account credit ($200), a gift card ($200) or use them as Qantas points. I could even use the promotion points to pay the $99 annual fee and still receive $100 for myself.

Interest rate is higher than I'd like

Reviewed and not recommended by Fernando on 23 Sep 2016

The American Express David Jones Credit Card is international credit card not accepted an many shops because they charge more on transactions. All the time I need to ask if Amex is accepted when I go to new shops. As well, we pay high interest every month.

The interest rate is too high

Reviewed and recommended by Marilynna on 20 Sep 2016

I think the interest rate on credit cards is too high, as it keeps going up all the time. When I got this credit card the interest rate was reasonable. Now it’s gone up and up, so I am paying so much in interest and fees that I have to think twice if it’s worth having.

I earned points on this card

Reviewed and recommended by karla on 20 Sep 2016

Great to earn points while you shop. I enjoy shopping online and looking at all the bargains, specials, and the beauty packs, and you get something for free.

It’s a flexible card but they put too many fees on if you get a paper statement sent in the mail.

It’s a great card to have. You can also have a supplementary card.

High rates, not accepted everywhere

Reviewed and not recommended by Billel on 19 Aug 2016

I had this card originally to gather a few points in order to use on shopping or buying gifts for people, but turned out to use it more than what it was intended. Rates are quite high however, and it is a little inconvenient with some places not accepting the card.

Amazing card!

Reviewed and recommended by Daniel on 07 Jul 2016

A great card that provides rewards at a reasonable annual fee, along with great promotions when you use your card at David Jones. Plus the great benefits of American Express Connect provides member-only offers to your card. Choice of either Qantas Points or Amex Membership Rewards programs when joining.
