Pros & cons

What's good?

What's not so good?

Up to 12 months balance transfer at 0% p.a., which reverts to the low ongoing variable interest rate of 11.99% p.a.
Use up to 100% of credit limit when transferring a balance.
Cheap $49 p.a. annual fee, which is similar to what most low rate cards charge.
Up to 45 days on purchases helps manage your cash flow better.
Joint applications are allowed.
Tap and Pay with Visa payWave.
Nothing particularly low rate about the 19.99% p.a. cash advance rate and 2.95% foreign exchange fee.
The minimum credit limit is just $1000. That’s great if you don’t want a large credit limit, but could be very little if you need more balance for balance transfer across.

Convenient, safe card from a great bank

Reviewed and recommended by Greg on 21 Sep 2016

My Australian Military Bank Low Rate Visa card is convenient and I feel very safe using it — even online.

The staff have been great — friendly, helpful and courteous — but then again, there’s not much reason to contact them.

I have been using it for 15 years and I am very happy. Of course, I would like to pay less interest. Strangely, I prefer to keep my hard-earned money in MY pocket and not be giving it away to any bank, but then again, the Military Bank isn’t like the Big Four. They don’t refuse to pass on official interest rate cuts and announce quarterly profits in the billions, and then announce that they have to cut staff and raise fees. Disgraceful!! I’ll stick with the credit unions even when they change their name to a “Bank”. They still look after their members and the ADCU/Australian Military Bank is one of the best as far as I am concerned.

Good for those looking for a back up

Reviewed and recommended by Matt on 27 Aug 2016

I would say overall this is a good backup card for anyone looking for a secondary option — good communication and readily available information and changes, comparable and competitive rates.

Originally I was recommended this card and I decided to give it a go as there were fewer options at the time that seemed to suit my basic needs. This one has been handy, and though swiped on many occasions, it is durable.

One for defence

Reviewed and recommended by Stewart on 20 Jul 2015

This card is the way a credit card should work. Low interest, high flexibility, and great customer service. Very easy to solve any problems that may arise and they can customise payments and any other banking tasks to suit you or your pay periods. Very, very good products and service.

I still find it hard to make payments

Reviewed and not recommended by Michelle Robinson on 20 Jul 2015

Even though it is a low interest card, I find it quite high still with interest especially if you are on a government benefit, e.g. pension. We still seem to struggle to make sufficient payments. If you could make a fortnightly payment, it would be a much better way to pay.

The best of the best

Reviewed and recommended by Don on 06 Sep 2014

The ADCU low rate Credit Card is ideal for me as the balance is viewable from my ADCU login, no separate email or web page to look up. Talk to real people immediately at the local branch, credit limit is easy to increase and decrease when required. Top card top service, no other card for me.

Reasonable rates and widely accepted

Reviewed and recommended by ADCU Review on 01 Apr 2014

I like ADCU as it is a credit union run by people. The rates are reasonable and customer service always very obliging. It is accepted in all ATMs and overseas. As it is Defence, there are offices all around Australia if you need to have face to face time with a consultant.
